COACHING FOR CREATIVE PEOPLE

I believe we are all creative beings. Creativity is our capacity to imagine something that doesn’t yet exist and to bring some part of it into being. For one person, that might be a novel or a play. For another, it might be a business, a career change, a relationship, or an entirely new chapter of life. What we create is deeply personal—and so is the courage it sometimes takes to create it.

But for those who have chosen to make creativity their profession, the stakes can feel particularly high. Writers, actors, artists, musicians, designers, filmmakers, and other creative professionals often have to navigate a unique combination of vulnerability, uncertainty, rejection, comparison, perfectionism, and self-doubt. When your creative work is also your livelihood, it can become difficult to separate the work itself from your sense of worth. Sometimes you know exactly what you want to do, but something keeps getting in the way of doing it.

This is where my own experience as a writer, playwright, performer, and creative entrepreneur informs my work as a coach. I understand the exhilaration of having an idea you can't stop thinking about—and the equally familiar experience of questioning whether that idea is good enough, wondering what other people will think, or struggling to keep going when the excitement wears off. I know what it is like to put something you've created into the world and wait to see whether it will be embraced, rejected, or simply ignored.

As a coach, I help creative professionals understand what is getting in the way of their creative lives and find ways to move forward. Sometimes that means getting unstuck on a project. Sometimes it means overcoming perfectionism or fear of failure. Sometimes it means finding the confidence to put your work out into the world, navigating rejection, embracing success in a healthy way, making a difficult career decision, or figuring out what you want to create next.

My approach combines practical coaching with an understanding of the mind-body connection. As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Relational Life Therapy-trained coach, I’m interested not only in what you think, but in what happens in your body when you take a creative risk, experience rejection, feel exposed, or find yourself holding back. Together, we can explore those patterns without judgment and develop ways to work with them rather than allowing them to run the show.

You don't have to wait until you feel confident to create. Sometimes confidence is what develops because you begin.
