Why Can't I Make up my Mind?

We ALL struggle in one way or another when making decisions in life. From what we have for dinner, to who we have as a spouse... and everything in-between.We don't decide because it is so much easier to do the following...

  • DELAYING (Postponing thoughts and actions due to fear)

  • AGONIZING (Getting lost in all the data and overwhelmed with analyzing alternatives.)

  • PARALYSIS (Deciding to accept responsibility but being unable to do anything about it.)

  • COMPLIANCE (Allowing someone else to decide with out voicing one’s own views.)

  • COLLECTING OPINIONS (Doubting one’s own ability to successfully decide and therefore gathering often inappropriate advice from unsuitable sources.)

But are these five approaches really that easy? Personally, I find them exhausting... ten times harder than just eeny meeny miney mo which at least will lead you to discover you made the wrong decision faster.

Here's the challenge. Next decision to be made...don't think about it. Place your options on either side of a coin - then flip it. When the random choice has been made - read your body for clues to what you really want. Your breath will either exhale with contented relief or utter dread. We know what those two experiences feel like in our body. You will have your answer. Just remember not to think and trust that your nervous system will reveal which decision feels right.
