Wanting More Out of Life

There is an ambition that comes from NEVER feeling satisfied, NEVER being happy and ALWAYS wanting more.

Hmm…sounds like I’m being set up here. Okay, I’m listening…

HOWEVER, for some, there is an ambition that comes from feeling full, being happy, and finding inspiration to continue growing.

Something tells me there might be some small nugget of something to this madness.

Do you ever worry that if you feel content with where you are in life, you will stagnate and never strive for anything more? That the thing you’re chasing, (let’s call it, “happiness,” just for argument’s sake) is the very thing that once achieved, will hold you back? Whoa, whoa, whoa!! Wait a second! But that would mean joy brings failure. That celebration invokes stagnation. And that satisfaction causes death. Taking the time to acknowledge how far we’ve come would destroy us! We could have reached our potential, we could have met our goals, we could have created our multimillion-dollar start-up that would have saved lives, ended poverty and offered designer sneakers at half the price of a department store, if only we hadn’t felt satisfied! Why Lord? Why? Why? WHY???

Most of us don’t acknowledge an achievement as a destination. It’s merely a layover in Atlanta where we impatiently wait to board our next flight. To where? Doesn’t matter. Just get me back in the air, pointed North, South, East, West, whatever. Gotta keep moving, gotta get more miles, gotta get to JFK. Why? Because from there I can hop a flight to Heathrow. Okay, the metaphor is getting a little heavy handed, but you get the picture.

So, let’s not find motivation in our desperation. Let’s find inspiration in our accomplishments. By acknowledging the distance we’ve already traveled, we can enjoy our arrival, appreciate the efforts made to get there, and map out a deliberate travel plan for the next leg of our journey.

The Daily Steps:

1. Observe what you’ve done.

2. Feel no shame in smiling for the accomplishment.

3. Allow it the power to influence your next positive move.

Choose joy and it will inspire.
